Language Pathways Update at LFIK / Fall 2023
▶ Below are the three main improvements to Japanese language pathways, approved by the School Board.
- A new “Intermediate Group” has been established to ensure systematic learning from CP onwards. There are three groups in total. (See Japanese Course Structure 2023)
- Each “Beginner,” “Intermediate,” and “Advanced” group can learn Japanese systematically based on their individual prerequisites. (See Japanese Progression)
- During the first week of September, there will be a diagnostic test for all students, and the results of this test will determine the groups. (See Sample Entry Assessment)
▶ Confirmations.
- Families wishing to change their language selection made during online registration should contact the school administration at the end of August when the office reopens.
- Language pathway changes can only be made during September. For new students, decisions will be made based on the situation.
- Students coming from Japanese elementary and middle schools will be classified by age according to LFIK criteria, regardless of their Japanese proficiency level and course content previously studied.
- For students needing support in French, it is possible to use Japanese class time for French support lessons.
