Dr. Monica Neagoy’s Conference at the French International School Kyoto!

This Tuesday, February 11, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we had the immense pleasure of welcoming Dr. Monica NEAGOY, a world-renowned mathematics educator, author, and speaker.

An inspiring exchange with our mathematics teachers!

Dr. Neagoy led engaging workshops on mental calculation strategies and fractions (Cycle 2 – CP, CE1, CE2) and an exploration of area and perimeter, all within the framework of implementing the Singapore Math Method.

What is the Singapore Math Method?
Designed in Singapore in 1982, this educational approach has revolutionized mathematics teaching. Thanks to this method, Singaporean students have ranked first in TIMSS and PISA assessments since the 1990s. It is based on systematic hands-on activities, allowing for in-depth understanding and a natural progression from concrete to abstract concepts.
Its effectiveness? A method where students explore, reflect, and learn from their mistakes, fostering logical and critical thinking skills.

At the end of her session, Dr. Neagoy generously offered her latest book, L’Approche de Singapour, to the teachers of lfikyoto, providing them with a valuable resource as they implement this innovative methodology.
Her visit to LFIKyoto marks the final stop of her 2025 tour, which began on January 6 in Jersey City, New Jersey.

A huge thank you to Dr. Neagoy for her dedication and inspiring passion!
